Poppy research

For this task, LS2 was challenged to create a presentation and present it to our whole reading group. Before we started making this DLO, we had to learn about ANZAC. I learnt ANZAC is a special name for the soldiers who were from Australia and New Zealand. The name came from a long phrase called “Australian New Zealand Army Corps”. I found  intresting flower the  poppies are valued for their brilliantly colored blossoms with papery petals, we can use the dried out petals to create a mild pain reliever and a treatment for really hard, bothered coughs.Next time I present I would need to improve on speaking louder for everyone to hear me.

Samuel Marsden APodcast

This week our challange was to create a podcast about Samuel Marsden and about his journey the New Zealand, Me and my friend baileigh created this podcast on Adobe AI Podcast, I really enjoyed this fun task because it involved teamwork and it was just a very cool task, We learnt how to use new apps such as Adobe Express, And i also loved that we did this work together.

Kuaka Infographic

For our (reading) task we learnt about the Kuaka bird and where it travels daily around New Zealand. I went on Google maps to trace the path the kuaka took to migrate but first I  search up where does the kuaka bird travel around New Zealand when  they migrated from Alaska. We all know we got a lot of questions why can’t the kuaka bird just stay in one place around New Zealand. The food that that the Kuaka bird eats is Worms , Shellfish and Insects they usually eat it around Coastal Areas like beaches. They stop around New Zealand to refuel their body to have energy to fly to Alaska to their breeding grounds. Something i found interesting was that we got to learn where they traveled.

Dot to Dot Connections

LI: To draw the lines between the words to show how the connections you have made.

For this acitvity I’m talking about how we had learned about the kuaka birds. If you collaborated say what this means and how this helped you combine your knowledge, This activity was fun because we got to learn about the Kuaka bird and what it could do. We were working in our Reading groups, We we’re talking to each other to get information. We listened to everyone’s ideas.

Soemthing I found interesting was that we got to learn about the kuaka bird.

Kuaka migration.

For this activity we needed to create a map that shows how long the kuaka birds fly for and where the kuaka birds migrate to.

Kuaka birds, also known as bar-tailed godwits, love to hang out near the water, especially in places like estuaries, mudflats, beaches, and coastal marshes, where they find lots of yummy food.

Every year, as winter approaches, the Kuaka fly north to the breeding grounds of Alaska, stopping off in Korea and Japan for a rest and some food on the way. On the return journey, as our summer approaches, they fly directly to New Zealand, a trip of endurance with no food, water, or rest; nearly 12,000 km non-stop.

Tamaki River walk

LI: To understand the concept of visual storytelling.

Our task was creating a Photo story of our walk to Pt England Reserve by using the photos from the walk. To create a story by using photos we want to put the photos in the time order  sequence by explaining how fun our walk was I always wondered how long the walk took. One thing I enjoyed was when we came back to school after the walk and we got to make a podcast acting like we were talking to Samuel Marsden and ask him questions.

Kokako bird

Our Year 7/8 camp was at Kokako Lodge in Hunua. Our challenge today was to use our smart searching skills to find out about the kokako bird and create an infographic to share the facts we researched in our own words. Something I found interesting about the kokako bird was that the Kokako isnt really good strong fliers but they can get to the places they need or want to go, I also found out that they were classified as threatened which is really interesting for a amazing Bird like the kokako.

pepeha

For this task, we wrote our pepeha which lets everyone get to know our roots. This lets us get to know each other as a community. I found this activity fun because I got to learn more from others. Thank you for reading my pepeha as I give my acknowledgements to you all.
