Whakaari island reserch.

This week for inquiry me and LS2 class had a choice to do research on Tarawera or Whakaari, Me and my other friends worked in a group of six and this is our finished DLO with facts and our research, even a picture of the Whakaari volcano itself, this task was a cool task and i’m glad that my friends helped me learn about whakaari volcano.

Rounding numbers

Last week, group 4 in maths was learning how to round numbers up to the millions and two decimal places and after learning how to do it we created a DLO explaining how to round so there’s can learn how to round as well. Something that I really like is how we all helped and learned from eachother to create this DLO.

Maths

Today in Maths, Miss Fisi’ahi got each Maths group to create a DLO about what we are learning about at the moment. My Maths group was learning how to name place and total values up to Millions and two decimal places and created a DLO explaining how to so that it can teach others who don’t know how to do it. This was a collaborative task and that was my favourite part about it because we could get more information in the DLO.

Why Maungarei Sleeps (a Pourquoi story)

Back in the day in 1890s, there was once a very old volcano named Maungarei. She had awakened from her slumber. She had woken up because the elephant was whipping Maungarei’s back with its trunk, she tried to ignore it but the whipping kept coming. She inhaled and exhaled to calm herself down, she had a pretty bad temper and she doesn’t want to show it, the elephant was really annoying which was frustrating. Maungarei was very mad, she never wanted to be awakened! Her magma chamber fills and she starts rumbling sending shudders through the town, at first people thought it was an earthquake, everyone ignored the signs but it was too late to run, the ash quickly spread, the lava shoots out recklessly, everyone tried to run, but the lava quickly catches up. Ash spreads quickly going up and falls down like a snow show nearly engulfing the entire town covering anything below it, she shakes sending shudders through the earth, she grumbles and rumbles ash and lava shoots out by the second, it is a very powerful eruption, everyone tries to evacuate but the elephants trunks grip onto all of them and they all get dragged back. Maungarei looks around and realises she what had happened, she had covered dinosaurs in lava but they somehow survived.

‘We only want 10 lava covered dinosaurs please don’t make anymore!’ says the leader of the lava covered dinosaurs.

‘Ok ok I promise I will never ever erupt ever again you guys will be the only lava covered dinosaurs”.

She promised the dinosaurs that she will never erupt again, therefore Maungarei is asleep forever and ever.

I created this photo using the generative AI feature on Adobe express. I experimented with many prompts and chose this one because I think it suits my story the best. I also like it the most out of all of the other recommendations. I think this is a very cool feature to use on Adobe since it is very helpful for people who need some help with creating images or even templates!

What are volcano

This week we created a DLO about volcanoes and what type of volcanoes there are.  They are the Shield Volcano which is a type of volcano that takes the shape of a shield, Dome Volcanoes which are shaped like a hill or big lump and they are formed when lava oozes out of the dome, the Cone Volcanoes are the shape of a cone, when the volcano erupts the hot magma from the inside spewed up into the earth’s surface turning into lava and finally the Caldera Volcanoes, this type of volcano was one of the three other volcano that had collapsed.

Poppy research

For this task, LS2 was challenged to create a presentation and present it to our whole reading group. Before we started making this DLO, we had to learn about ANZAC. I learnt ANZAC is a special name for the soldiers who were from Australia and New Zealand. The name came from a long phrase called “Australian New Zealand Army Corps”. I found  intresting flower the  poppies are valued for their brilliantly colored blossoms with papery petals, we can use the dried out petals to create a mild pain reliever and a treatment for really hard, bothered coughs.Next time I present I would need to improve on speaking louder for everyone to hear me.

Samuel Marsden APodcast

This week our challange was to create a podcast about Samuel Marsden and about his journey the New Zealand, Me and my friend baileigh created this podcast on Adobe AI Podcast, I really enjoyed this fun task because it involved teamwork and it was just a very cool task, We learnt how to use new apps such as Adobe Express, And i also loved that we did this work together.

Kuaka Infographic

For our (reading) task we learnt about the Kuaka bird and where it travels daily around New Zealand. I went on Google maps to trace the path the kuaka took to migrate but first I  search up where does the kuaka bird travel around New Zealand when  they migrated from Alaska. We all know we got a lot of questions why can’t the kuaka bird just stay in one place around New Zealand. The food that that the Kuaka bird eats is Worms , Shellfish and Insects they usually eat it around Coastal Areas like beaches. They stop around New Zealand to refuel their body to have energy to fly to Alaska to their breeding grounds. Something i found interesting was that we got to learn where they traveled.
